American Idol's results show opened with clips from last night's Idol edited into a trailer of the Clash of the Titans film. As Zeus (Liam Neeson) says "Release the Kracken!" we cut to a disturbing slow motion image of Simon Cowell. As for pure product placement, it was pretty entertaining, considering the reviews of the film, we probably saw the best of it.
It was one of those shows that had everything, but the kitchen sink. Ruben Studdard performed, as did Usher, Will.i.am and Diddy Dirty Money - Justin Bieber in the audience, a karate kid Ford music video, a fight between Ryan and Simon, it's exhausting even in recap.
But we digress, the point of tonight's show - results. R&B soul week did not end well for Didi Benami. Didi's rendition of What Becomes of the Brokenhearted was not well received by fans and the judges were unanimous in saying that the performance was way over the top.
Benami still has a job though, she is a part of the summer tour with the top ten.
So what did we learn tonight on Idol:
*Ruben is now a vegan and works out every day
*Tim Urban likes to smile after every performance because it may be his last
*Usher's costume looked like something Ben Vereen wore in All That Jazz
*That Diddy Dirty Money gave Didi Benami a run for the money in "over the top": violins, staircase, dry ice effects, strobe lights
