Kate Gosselin Waltzes For Her Kids, Nicole Scherzinger Sizzles & Pamela Anderson Struts Her Money-Maker!
ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" kicked off-season 10 with plenty shaking, shimmering and nerves Monday night! But it was the former star of "Jon & Kate Plus 8," Kate Gosselin who was on a mission to prove to her kids that -- mommy got moves!
Before the pretty in pink Mama G. (with $7000 hair extensions) hit the ballroom with dance partner, Tony Dovolani, she revealed her children told her she couldn't dance. In pure Kate fashion she said she's going to show them.
"Without a doubt, I'm going to prove them wrong."
And just before performing a Viennese waltz that got panned by the judges, she sent a message to mothers across America.
"All the moms out there, this is for you! Wish me luck."
Now, as a new mother myself, I can certainly appreciate Kate's efforts and applaud her, but I am still wondering who was at home tucking her 8 off-spring into bed.
Dancing awkwardly and stiff to Billy Joel's, "She's Always A Women To Me," Kate failed to impress the judges especially Bruno Tolini who said; "The technique was terrible," as she stood stunned, "It looked like Tony was pushing a shopping cart acroos the floor. You have to exude something!"
Judge Carrie Anne Inaba took a softer approach.
"You're very different than the other people on the show" -- "not a performer" and "not an athlete."
Inba went on to say about the nurse turned reality TV mom: "There's a sweet vulnerability to what you do" and "You have an honesty that resonated with people."
Even though she may have challenges on the dance floor, I think Kate will sashay into the next round with breeze. Gosselin scored 16 out of 30 points and came in third to last, beating out "All My Children" star Aiden Turner and 80-year-old astronaut Buzz Aldrin who took last with 14 points.
Speaking of moms, for me, Pamela Anderson was the most anticipated celebrity of the "Dancing" debut. It wasn't surprising ABC kept the former Baywatch babe until the very end the show (now that's a way to get that male demo up). Having interviewed her many times, you just never know what Anderson is gonna say much less do -- so naturally I couldn't wait for her cha-cha with sexy partner and dancing newcomer, Damian Whitewood.
Despite looking the part with the fake tan, hair extensions and rockin' body at age 42, the blonde ambition reminded more of a sexed up rag doll than ballroom dancer. Her performance was good for Tom Bergeron who was as giddy as a school boy and Bruno broke out with his best Brunoism of the night jumping up and yelling: "Striperella's back home! Do it to me girl!"
Setting the bar for the rest of the celebrity hoofers was Pussycat Dolls lead singer, Nicole Scherzinger. After her graceful waltz with pro partner, Derek Hough, she finished at the top of the leader board earning 25 points out of 30.
Now as a former dancer myself, I personally think Scherzinger has an advantage given her hip hop past, however she told host Brooke Burke backstage.
"It's a far cry from chest pumps and booty dips."
Rounding out the ladies: "90210" alum Shannen Doherty, who amidst massive stage fright, showed a softer side expressing her reason for joining the show was to please her father who recently suffered a heartattack. ESPN anchor Erin Andrews proved to already have plenty of chemistry with dancing partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and comedian/TV host Niecy Nash who dedicated her number to "thick girls everywhere."
