IDOL GIVES BACK: EVERYONE SHOWED UP FROM THE PRESIDENT TO BILL GATES!

President Obama and Michelle Obama opened the show with a thank you and a pitch - Bill and Melinda Gates added their own. ISH went through a box of tissues and dialed up 1.877. IDOL AID faster than Simon changes his tee shirts!

Idol Gives Back, has raised more than $140 million since its 2007 launch, which will benefit Children's Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, the United Nations Foundation and Save the Children's U.S. programs this year. Viewers were asked to donate throughout the broadcast.

The Black Eyed Peas, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Elton John and other musicians performed from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Annie Lennox, was stranded in London because of travel disruptions due to volcanic ash, performed in a pre-taped appearance. Jennifer Garner and Morgan Freeman appeared in segments showcasing the charities' work. Even the Octo-mom and three of her kids were there!

Tim Urban was eliminated at the end of the "Idol Gives Back" charity event. Urban, who wasn't at his best with his version of the Goo Goo Dolls' "Better Days" on Tuesday's inspirational-themed performance show, received the fewest viewer votes. "Keep that smile alive," host Ryan Seacrest told the unflappable singer.

The singers will be mentored next week by Shania Twain.
